Unloved & Unwanted

At GIYM, we believe every child should have the opportunity to experience the joy of tennis.

Through our Unloved & Unwanted initiative, we give a free tennis racket to every child who takes part in our programmes, helping to remove barriers to participation and make tennis more accessible.

We also recognise the importance of protecting our environment and reducing waste. Rather than letting unwanted tennis rackets go unused, we give them a second life, helping to make the game more sustainable as well as more inclusive.

Children’s rackets are given directly to the young people on our programmes, while adult pre-loved rackets are available to purchase through our website. Every sale generates funds that go straight back into our charity, helping us continue our work and reach more disadvantaged children through tennis.

By donating unwanted rackets, purchasing a pre-loved adult racket or spreading the word, you can help us reduce waste, give equipment a new home and change lives through the power of tennis.

How it works?

We receive donations of unwanted tennis rackets, giving them a new lease of life through our Unloved & Unwanted campaign. The initiative helps us reduce waste while making tennis more accessible to children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Twice a year, we send a questionnaire to all the children in our programmes, giving them the opportunity to apply for a free tennis racket. This is also an important way for us to check in with our programme children, understand how they are getting on and offer further support where we can.

Applicants receive their very own racket to keep, helping to remove the financial barrier of purchasing equipment and enabling them to continue their tennis journey beyond our sessions. We hope that having their own racket will encourage them to keep playing, practising and developing their skills.

Adult rackets donated to us are carefully cleaned up and prepared before being listed for sale on our merchandise website. All proceeds from these sales go directly back into the charity, helping us fund our programmes and continue making a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children through tennis.

Through Unloved & Unwanted, we give pre-loved rackets a second life, support the sustainability of our work and help more children continue their tennis journey.

What people say?

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our Unloved & Unwanted campaign, supported by the Wimbledon Foundation. To be able to give every child that comes through our programme a free tennis racket makes us very happy and we also believe we have a responsibility to protect our environment, and educate the young to do so too. We were keen to launch an initiative that would benefit our children but also create a sustainable solution to recycling unwanted tennis rackets. Once we have provided a free racket to every GIYM child, the surplus will sit on our website making us the go to place for a pre-loved tennis racket with all proceeds going back into our programmes. Please do help us spread the word and get behind the campaign to help improve the lives of disadvantaged children through the game of tennis.
